EVMS School Counselor Support Request Form

At Eagle Valley Middle School, counselors enhance the learning process and promote academic, career, and social/emotional development with students. Our school counseling program is essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set informed career goals and realize full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of the world community.

We do this by providing Social Emotional Learning opportunities, both virtually and in the classroom setting, at each grade level on a regular basis. We utilize effective, research based social-emotional curriculum to help our students grow through the middle school years. Counselors also provide topic-based, small group support for students. Some examples of these groups include: grief and loss, family systems change, confidence/self-esteem, friendship making, coping skills, and managing stress and worry. Small groups will typically meet for 6-10 weeks, either during a class period or lunch.

Additionally, counselors meet 1:1 with students to talk about concerns they are struggling with. Some reasons a student might meet with a counselor could be to talk about grades and schoolwork, peer conflict, family conflict, managing intense emotions, solving a conflict, habit change, and many other topics. During these meetings, we place a high value on confidentiality. There are some big exceptions, such as when someone is hurting the student, the student wants to hurt someone else, the student wants to hurt themselves, or any other safety issues. Should a safety concern arise, the counselor will work with administration and the family to ensure the safety of all students.
